Oregon Children’s Theatre announces Winter 2013 Acting Academy Classes

Oregon Children’s Theatre offers exciting theater training to build solid performance skills, gain confidence and let imaginations soar in a safe and fun learning environment.

From the youngest performers just starting to explore the stage, to high school students seeking college and professional theater preparations—OCT has the class for them! All classes culminate in a presentation for family and friends on the final day.

Class highlights include:
Students (age 3-5) will join Portland’s Mr. Hoo from The Alphabeticians as they sing lively songs and learn early musical skills. The class will create a CD full of the songs they learn. The last class culminates in a release party where the kids sing the songs live and receive a copy of the fully edited, professional CD.

CREATE & PERFORM: Aesop’s Fables
Like short plays, Aesop’s Fables are the perfect format for new actors (age 8-11) to develop performance skills. Taught by Portland theater veteran, Chris Harder, the class will explore creative storytelling, improvisation, and bringing fabulous characters to life on stage.

High stakes drama, complex characters, and a pop-rock score with stirring ballads and rousing choral numbers―Aida has it all! Beyond a performance class, instructor Chanda Hall will guide students (age 12+) as they rehearse and sing the music of Elton John and Tim Rice, while gaining audition skills and professional insight.

TEEN SCENE: Viewpoints! Teen Option
Viewpoints is an energizing, acclaimed technique that uses movement, improvisation, and playful exercises to uncover performance possibilities. Students (age 13+) will advance their training and understanding of Viewpoints, and then create original compositions to perform for an audience. Taught by Chris Harder.

In addition Oregon Children’s Theatre also offers Young Professionals, an educational program for students who are seeking advanced training through mentorship and exposure to a wide range of theater experiences. Young Professionals helps highly motivated students explore their love of theater by providing guidance and opportunities to achieve their dreams.
