Our 2014 Education and Enrichment Fair is a wonderful opportunity for you to connect directly with dozens of schools and businesses offering children’s classes, lessons, and other before- and after-school programs. This year’s fair will also bring additional value to parents and families through a robust speaker presentation lineup, as well as a fun and interactive activity area to explore many of the enrichment opportunities available in the Portland-metro area.

Collect information, learn from the experts, talk to educators and providers, try an activity, evaluate opportunities for your child, and more — all in one place. Entrance to the fair as well as all speakers and activities are free.

Here is our Activity Area Schedule for Ed Fair 2014 (all activities are FREE!)

10:30-11:00am
Math Gamers© Geometry Tables
K/1: Pizza Circles (& Other Shapes)© Students identify wholes, halves, and fourths of various shapes, then color and cut them out. 2/3: 7 to 1© Students work with the ancient Chinese practice of rearranging tans (7 shapes formed into 1 square) into new designs, measuring the perimeter of each of their designs and then coloring a scene around it. 4/5: Going 3-D© Using a cube or tetrahedron drawn in 2-dimensional form, students find the surface area and volume of their shape, then, color, cut out, and construct it into a 3-dimensional solid.

Contemporary Jazz Dance Class with Northwest Dance Project
An upbeat and energetic dance class developing strong technical foundation focusing on lowering the dancer’s center of gravity and syncopating movement with a blend of Latin, modern, ballet and jazz. This focused and active class helps dancers connect to feeling movement from the inside out.

12:00-12:50pm
Physical Theater & Acrobatics for all!
Tumble, create, and play in this extremely physical theater workshop. Students explore their own creativity while working collaboratively with others on movement games, tumbling, partner and group acrobatics, and physical theater exercises. Ages 5 – 12, all levels welcome!
Taught by Wendy Cohen, Education Director of the Echo Theater Company and Do Jump School.

1:00-1:20pm
Sing Along with Miss Melissa and Her Guitar
Come sing old favorites–“The ABC Song”, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, “Wheels on the Bus”–and learn some new ones–“Down on Grandpa’s Farm”, “Going on a Picnic”. Fun for children ages 3 through 8 and their parents, too!

Theater Games with Oregon Children’s Theatre’s Improv Troupe – Impulse!
Join the teens of Oregon Children’s Theatre’s award winning improv troupe – Impulse – as they create scenes all based on your suggestions. Play focus and energy games alongside these young professionals, and create some original comedy. Get ready to think quick, stretch your imaginations, and burst into laughter in this fun-filled session.

Little Bits Electronics and WeDo Robotics: Alligator with Little Engineers
Little Bits Electronics: Participants will get to discover and invent circuits using Little Bits electronics sets. Activities will be guided by a facilitator and include digital instructions.
WeDo Robotics – Alligator: Participants will build a Lego Robot Alligator which will be programmed to chomp down when fed!
