Portland Cooking Classes for Kids

Ladies and gentlemen, start your burners! A kids cooking class is a great way for kids to sharpen their knife skills, learn about where food comes from, and — ultimately — get interested in helping to make meals at home! Here are some great options for kids to get more comfortable in the kitchen and have a blast while doing it.

Little Kitchen Academy. At this Montessori-inspired cooking school, your child will learn to make seasonal, delicious meals from scratch, and polish up their table manners by sharing meals around the community table. They’ll also experience some sneaky reading, math and science learning while they’re at it! Ages 3+. 7443 SW Bridgeport Road, Tigard.

The Merry Kitchen. The Merry Kitchen offers a wide array of classes aimed at children from as young as six right on up to teens. Classes are seasonal—you can find classes to fit along with Christmas, Chinese New Year, and other food-focused holidays. You can also choose from after-school classes, camps, and birthday options.  5202 NE 72nd Ave, Portland.

Cookin’ Class. This Tigard business offers many classes for ages 7+, perfect for the child who wants to learn with adults because RESPECT. They even offer a Family Brunch class and Around the World Series. The experience is a three-parter: snacks, cooking, and enjoying the three-course meal you just made. 9265 SW Greenburg Rd., Tigard.

Portland Farmers Markets. During Kids Cook at the Market days, you can sign your 7- to 12-year-old up to learn about the seasonality of food, meet local farmers, and prepare ingredients purchased fresh at the market. Blake’s Decorette Shop. What better place to learn to make cakes than a cake decorating and candy making supply shop? They have every tool under the sun and offer classes for kids and adults. You may also book a birthday party, to share the fun with friends. 11945 SW Pacific Hwy Ste 109, Portland.

Turnip the Heat Cooking. Turnip the Heat Cooking offers kids cooking summer camps, celebrating the cuisine of a different country each day.

Ney’s Cookie Craze. These sugar cookie classes in Beaverton are for the beginner cookier, with classes for kids and adults. Most classes are perfect for ages 8+.

Feed the Mass. Feed the Mass is a local nonprofit dedicated to making cooking education and quality food accessible to everyone. They offer private and group cooking classes, in addition to their virtual classes on YouTube. 80 NW Davis St., Portland.
