Catlin Gabel Mission Statement
Catlin Gabel supports inspired learning leading to responsible action through dedicated teaching, caring relationships, a challenging curriculum, and community service. We value each person's effort, imagination, and positive contributions to the community. We celebrate being inclusive and the partnership between family and school.

What Education Can Be

Catlin Gabel is Portland's nationally recognized progressive independent preschool through 12th grade where teachers build transforming relationships with each student while honoring each child's innate capacities. Teachers encourage exploration, welcome questions, and always present new intellectual and creative challenges to our young scientists, storytellers, artists, and athletes.

Financial Assistance and Scholarship Opportunities
Catlin Gabel is committed to making its education affordable. More than one-quarter of the student body received financial assistance through need-based grants and special scholarships. Grant and scholarship awards are not loans and do not have to be paid back. For the 2018-19 school year, we allocated nearly $4.5 million in financial assistance to families with annual household incomes primarily within the range of $15,140 to $285,355. Grants ranged from $7,200 to $32,250 and averaged $21,700.

Need-based Grants
We encourage families to apply for admission regardless of financial circumstances. Catlin Gabel believes socio-economic diversity enriches the educational experience for all of its students and is committed to offering a robust need-based financial assistance program. Every family is expected to contribute to the cost of their child's education to the extent they are able. Need-based grants are available to help bridge the gap and offset the cost of tuition as well as books, laptops, school trips, bus service, and activities. Visit catlin.edu/affording to apply. Deadline to submit application:

  • January 31, 2019 for Palma Scholars Program applicants needing assistance beyond the partial scholarship.
  • February 8, 2019 for all other applicants
